Sheriff Abe DeVol was born and raised in Kalkaska County enjoying all that the woods and water of Northern Michigan have to offer. Abe graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1989.
After joining the Kalkaska Sheriff Office on December 1, 1995 as a part time snowmobile/ORV Officer, Abe then attended Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City where he completed the Northwestern Police Academy and was promoted to Full-time status at the Kalkaska Sheriff Office in 1996.
Abe was a Road Patrol Deputy, Community Policing Officer, School Liason Officer, Undercover Narcotics Officer, Detective, Sergeant and a member of the Kalkaska Sheriff Office Dive Team and Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force Emergency Response Team.
Abe was appointed Undersheriff by Sheriff David Israel in 2008, achieved a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Organization from Spring Arbor University in 2011 and completed the FBI National Academy in 2014.
Abe was appointed Sheriff of Kalkaska County to fill out the term of Sheriff Israel who retired on February 28, 2015.
Sheriff Abraham C. DeVol passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2015 of natural causes.
