K-9 Unit
The Kalkaska County Sheriff Office does not currently deploy a K-9 Team. However the Sheriff Office does partner with
surrounding agencies to provide Police K-9 services to local schools and assist Kalkaska County Sheriff Deputies with K-9 searches when a K-9 team is
available.
"Roslan"
Beginning October 30, 2009, then Deputy Kevin Schaub with his
partner K-9 Deputy Roslan (pronounced Rus-lan), a male German Shepherd,
provided general patrol and K-9 services to Kalksaka County.
Roslan was born in Poland on 02-18-2008 and imported to the United States in late June 2009. K-9 Deputy Roslan was then selected
by members of the Sheriff's Office and paired together with his Handler, Deputy Kevin Schaub, on September 15th 2009. The K-9 Team started
the 200 hour Basic K-9 Handler's course at Mid-Michigan Kennels on September 28th. They graduated on October 29th after obtaining their
certification as a Dual Purpose Patrol and Narcotics Detection K-9 Team. During this time the K-9 Team also became members of the International
Police Working Dog Association (IPWDA) and received their IPWDA certifications in both Narcotics Detection and Tracking. The K-9 Team's
certifications were maintained with yearly re-certification and testing. This
was achieved and performance standards were exceeded
with extensive monthly in service training.
Roslan was retired from service in mid 2016 after 7 years of
faithful service and now resides with the Schaub family.
